A special community viewing & conversation

Watch a film. Open a conversation.

Humans First Productions, in partnership with Connecting 4 Justice, invites you to a special screening of A Different Kind of Justice, followed by a community conversation with director Dara Barlin.

This gathering creates space to listen, ask questions, and challenge assumptions about carceral systems and the people most affected by them. By bringing different experiences into the conversation, we can explore what becomes possible when people are at the center of the justice system.

About the film

What changes when we see the humanity in one another?

When a tough but compassionate warden discovers that emotional intelligence can transform even volatile prison environments, an unlikely coalition begins to take shape.

Wardens, correctional officers, and incarcerated people start to see the system—and one another—differently. The film explores what happens when we move beyond punishment alone and recognize the experiences and potential of everyone impacted by incarceration.

The conversation continues

Stay for the director Q&A.

After the screening, join Dara Barlin and fellow participants to share reflections, hear lived experiences, and discuss practical ideas for healing, reducing trauma, and supporting families and returning citizens.

Following the screening

Questions worth exploring together.

The film is a starting point. Our community dialogue will make room for different perspectives and practical possibilities for change.

  • What does a truly human-centered justice system look like?
  • What can correctional leaders do differently?
  • How can we create safer environments for everyone, inside and outside the system?
  • What role do emotional intelligence, empathy, and human connection play in public safety?
  • What can we do differently from here?
